The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania takes such matters with the utmost seriousness, as we remain fully committed to upholding our responsibilities under International Maritime Conventions, including the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006). Following the report and subsequent inquiry, the relevant Tanzanian Maritime Authorities, including the Zanzibar Maritime Authority (ZMA) engaged directly with the ship owner. We are pleased to inform you that the issue has been fully resolved in the following manner:

(a) all affected crew members have received payment of their outstanding wages in full;
(b) arrangements were made for the safe repatriation of all crew members to their respective home countries;
(c) The United Republic of Tanzania is undertaking additional review measures to ensure compliance with Tanzanian flag obligations and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

We appreciate the IMO’s role in facilitating global maritime welfare and thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Tanzania remains committed to continuous improvement in its flag state responsibilities and to the welfare and protection of seafarers operating under its flag.

Enclosed, are documents that provide a clear account of the actions taken from our end.
