Circumstances
The vessel has been in port since 22nd March 2025, moored alongside two old fishing boats in unsafe conditions.
The owner, based in Vigo, occasionally gives the crew small amounts of money and some food, but the seafarers say it’s not enough. Stella Maris provided extra supplies.
The Chief Engineer wants to return home but needs his wages, a visa, and a return ticket.

Please see below the information submitted by the Local Maritime Authority in Vigo on the situation of the Fishing Vessel ‘DUX’, IMO Number 5403740, flag: UNKNOWN on IMO GISIS before 1 April 2018: Lithuania, having on board 9 seafarers from Cameroon (1), Guinea-Bissau (3), and Morocco (1) who are abandoned in Vigo, Spain since 26 March 2025
• It is a fishing vessel under Guinea-Bissau flag.
• Fishing Vessel ‘DUX’ requested to call at the port of Vigo for maintenance and repair. No authorization for calling at Vigo was granted since no ship’s agent was appointed and no authorization from the General Secretariat of Maritime Fisheries was issued as required to any fishing vessel from a non-EU third country. However, given that the weather forecast, Vigo Port Authority allowed fishing vessel DUX to anchor.
• On Saturday 22nd March, Spanish security forces (Guardia Civil) conducted a drug investigation, but due to the sea conditions they ordered the Fishing Vessel ‘DUX’ to berth.
• Fishing Vessel ‘DUX’ was inspected by the Local Maritime Authority in Vigo and no actions were adopted since the intention of the owner was to carry out a dry dock repair.
