Circumstances

ITF was received from local union stating that the seafarers were complaining about outstanding wages from April 2013. There were other problems, such as no fuel for electricity, no food or drinking water. Crew members were using their own money for purchasing these items.
ITF inspector in Lagos attempted to contact the company in Nigeria but to no avail.
A company in Lagos wanted to buy the vessel and paid the lawyer USD 203,150. Crews were paid 50% of their total wages up until November 2013 from this, but that company pulled out shortly afterwards and requested a refund of their money. The lawyer refunded the money left in their care.
ITF offered to pay for the repatriation, but the crews declined, preferring to say on board in the hope of receiving their outstanding wages.
